June 13

Connor slept a bit last night, but was up vomiting overnight and early this morning. I got here about 6am, and he was awake, and trying to talk more. He is constantly choking on the mucus, and that is causing most of the throwing up. He was wanting to engage more, but frustrated we don't understand him right away.
On the positive column, his kidneys are back to normal and his liver is starting to recover. His hemoglobin went up a bit. He asked about food this afternoon, and is trying to eat an Italian ice. It's still hard to swallow, but a positive sign that he wants to try.

He spiked a fever again at about 9:30 and his blood pressure went down a bit. They are watching him closely for sepsis again.
His WBC are very low, and not coming up as they should after the transfusions. His platelets went up last night, and are already dropping again this morning. His ANC is still very low. They are going to try GCSF this morning, a medicine to help him generate WBC. His mouth sores can't heal until his WBC's come back and help him fight.
He blew out the mid-line this morning, so they had to redo another IV, he has bruises all over his hands and arms. And none of the lines allowed them to draw blood, so they continue to stick him twice a day (or more) to draw labs/cultures.
He's up to 8 pumps into 4 lines. It's a full time job just trying to figure out which line can go where, which medication is compatible, and keeping the pumps from beeping.
The blood pressure cuff has been moved to his leg because it's interfering with the IV's.
Connor is exhausted.  Trying to break the fever is taking every bit of energy he has, add in the mucus he's choking on, and he doesn't have anything left.
With all of this going on, the oncologist assured me this morning, that while he is very sick, what is going on right now is not fatal. She promised that she would not hide that (I'm sure they wouldn't), and they would give us time to allow Kaylea to visit if there were even a chance of that.
Wish I'd known that at 2am this morning.
Hopefully the new medicine will help, and sadly it's just a waiting game while his body fights as best it can.

  1. Your second last paragraph made my afternoon. Never would allow myself to think it, but the reassurance is great - hope you have a great sleep tonight with that reassurance!! We continue to send love, strength, and hope and feel quite useless unable to do anything else. Prayers for Connor ๐Ÿ’•K/C/M/L
