April 15

So Connor did spike a fever again last night, but they do thInk it's just the traumatized pancreas and that the lungs are still slightly stuck together at the bottom. The breathing treatments are going well and they've decreased them from every 6 to every 4 hours.  They moved him off the high flow to the regular cannula, and his room is amazingly quiet. Didn't realize how loud it really was!
He's still plagued with gas. He's hardly eating anything because there is just no room.  They are hoping that him getting moving will help with that.
PT came this morning, and with two people from PT, and me, the 4 of us managed to walk Connor halfway down the hall and back. We walked through the Drs doing rounds and they cheered our parade! He was attached to the oxygen and his saturation stayed at 100 and resps stayed even, amazing job!! He is highly motivated to get home.
With that in mind, his status has been updated so they take less frequent vitals, and while he's going to stay one more night in the ICU, if a bed is needed he'll be the first moved. Out of an abundance of caution they want him to stay one more night to make sure he tolerates the lower oxygen overnight. We are comfortable with this compromise.  I know these updates are long but I wanted to share something else today.
Every morning when I arrive at the hospital I park in the back lot by Goryeb (the Children's Hospital), and walk around (up hill), to the front door. COVID protocols have all visitors checking in at the front for contact tracing. The lovely Patient Liasons at the front know me by name now.  Thankfully they haven't memorized my phone number yet though!! I then take the stairs down 4 flights (told you it was a hill!) Cross through the halls to Goryeb, and up one more flight of stairs. I always take the stairs, both because it's good exercise, AND because they don't transport COVID patients in the stairwell!!
On each of the floors they have added inspirational quotes, and every morning I reread them, try to be mindful of their wisdom, and think positively.
These are two of my favourites. Thank you to everyone who send positive messages, prayers and good thoughts. In this instance they do help!! He is doing better and on his way to coming home.

  3. Excellent quotes! I like (and need) some inspiration frequently! :). Giving your morning walk parade a cheer sounds like the Valerie Place is the place to get well - great staff, great resources, and a positive, upbeat attitude - Connor will be home in record time! 🤞🙏🍀💕K/C/M/L
