April 12

Connor still isn't sleeping more than an hour or so at a time. Despite this he's making great progress. He's doing well on the breathing, they are going to slowly step down the high flow oxygen today to see how he tolerates it. The fluid in his lungs is definitely pneumonia, so they are continuing the new antibiotics, and added back the antifungal as well.
He finally had a CT this morning and it doesn't show an abscess, which is good. The pancreas is still inflamed, and has some fluid pockets, but we will just monitor this for now, usually this just gets reabsorbed eventually.
GI weighed in about the gas and bloating so we have a plan to help that as well. He finally got rid of the excess fluid, so they are now going to increase his fluid intake if he continues the high output. (It's a balancing act).
They allowed him back on food today, so he's currently eating and very happy about it. He's only allowed water to drink right now, he's just happy it's more than ice. He continues to need insulin to correct his blood glucose, it may take a while before the pancreas is acting normal even though the lipase numbers are back in normal range.
He's tired, bored, frustrated and yet still exceedingly polite. But more positives than negatives today!!

Comments

  1. Thank you for all the positives! May the new meds deal with the pneumonia.
Connor has my utmost admiration and respect for his politeness to all when he must be just so tired (yet cannot sleep) of it all! May he get home soon! In the meantime my love and prayers go out to all!💕

  2. We are all tired, bored, and frustrated ... but Connor is receiving a double whammy ... and I’m not sure we are all staying exceedingly polite! Well done Connor ... shows what a good mom and dad you have! :) Glad the news remains positive ... thank goodness for the addition of food and water - just keep peeing, peeing, peeing (sung by Dory). Sleep will bring great strides forward. 🍀🤞Lots of Love, 💕K/C/M/L
